Wedding dresses. (Northern style)
This was the set ( for rich family's daughter) with exquisite embroidery,
large scope of colors, especially red, for wedding occasion. Subtle
color screens with happy essence and also highlights the wearer joy.
Republic (1921-1949) Embroidery
China had plunged into an abyss of suffering by Qing government's corruptions at late Qing Dynasty. Nation was in turmoil and war situations rose one after another during Republic period. New government gained the power but lack the ability to clean the mess. People were living in poverty and their conditions had not improved.
After many years plundered by many foreign countries and heavily imposed by four families form new government, treasuries were running off and people were at the edge of hardship and dire straits. Artists were struggled to be survived and hardly to pursue artistic creations.
Embroidery didn't get developed or improved, but spread to the basic necessities of daily life. Clothing with embroidery were commonly used for Republic embroidery.
Art embroidery were rare and hardly many pieces were remained well till present.
